George Orwell was a brilliant but unusual man. He distanced himself from the rest of the world, and in return he was able to view it in a way no one had before. When he put his thoughts on to paper, he was trying to get a message across. Experiencing many events in his life, Orwell learned and put his experiences into his work. 1984 introduces an outlook to the future, what it could be like one day. In Orwell's life he fought in a war and served on a police force, he witnessed things that disgusted him. He feared for the future of our world, thinking one day these events he saw could become much more widespread and with acceptance. In 1984, through a brainwashed society and a few main characters Orwell provides a warning to the world of what may come.
In the world of 1984, the world itself was broken down to show our viewers a look into it: how the world was divided geographically and by population, and the Newspeak language of the people; a language that becomes simpler as time goes on and that is made to destroy individual thought. It shows the social structure and the purpose of Ingsoc, all related to the Party. Welcome to the world of 1984.
Orwell delivered his best in 1984. He put a group of characters in the game that each had a role. Winston, the ordinary man, Julia, the rebellious love interest, O'Brien, a proud party member, Big Brother, the almighty, and Goldstein, the villain, each character brought more than just a role to the novel. The characters also brought a symbol into the novel, another five things that the reader could analyze.
The central themes of Man vs. Society and Humanity itself were completely prevalent throughout the novel. Winston has an inevitable loss to come, constantly going against the government. The totalitarian government that rules Oceania has completely killed humanity. Orwell shows that the individual can not win against society and also warns the world of the dangers of totalitarianism.
